Five Habits That Make You Sound Natural in Conversation
Fluency is less about vocabulary size and more about rhythm, fillers and reaction.
Use contractions. 'I would not have done that' sounds formal; 'I wouldn't have done that' sounds human.
Learn reaction phrases: 'Really?', 'That makes sense', 'Fair enough', 'No way'. They keep conversation alive while you think.
Accept natural fillers. 'Well', 'I mean', and 'you know' buy processing time and are used by native speakers constantly.
Stress content words and reduce function words. English rhythm compresses 'to', 'of', 'and' almost to nothing.
Shadow a short audio clip daily: play a sentence, pause, repeat it copying the melody exactly. Ten minutes a day changes your rhythm within weeks.
